CamPlan CheckFree beta

Plan cable lengths and order quantities

Check the longest copper Ethernet channel and estimate how many boxes of fixed cable to order. Enter the route length rather than the straight-line distance between devices.

04 / CABLING

Copper Ethernet runs

Enter the longest fixed run, patch cords and total cable. The length check is for ordinary copper Ethernet; verify the selected cable and application.

Planning example & assumptions

The usual planning limits are 90 meters for the permanent link and 100 meters including patch cords. These limits do not certify installation performance. Cable type, connectors, temperature, PoE load and the selected Ethernet application still matter. Include service loops and routing waste in your allowance.

Common planning questions

Does the 100 meter Ethernet limit include patch cords?

Yes. The usual copper Ethernet channel limit includes the fixed cable and cords at both ends. The fixed permanent link is usually limited to 90 meters. The worksheet checks both lengths.

How is the cable order calculated?

The number of runs is multiplied by average fixed run length, then increased by your installation allowance. Divide by cable per box and round up. Patch cords are excluded from the fixed cable order.
